History of 783 Washinton Street

If you answered an appliance store run by the Boston Edison an managed by Mary LaTown for years you’d be correct. And before the Post Office occupied the building at 58 Central St. (presently True Value Hardware) this storefront was Holliston’s Post Office. Sandwiched between Studio D and the Superette this vacant storefront has 2 new businesses as of Monday June 22nd.
Excellent Cleaners and Brick House Realty will share space, the cleaners in the front and the real estate office to the rear. Now if your thinking that’s an odd combination, Doug and Maria Salomao Schmidt think it’s just a natural progression of doing business. Husband and wife -Doug is the cleaner’s part, Maria the real estate. Maria told me that her office space at home had outgrown its space with 4 children having easy access to mom while she worked. Doug on the other hand has a main cleaning plant in Ashland with sites in Uxbridge and Norwood. Holliston is where they live, so he decided to open a store here. The storefront will offer the largest cork board posting site in Metro Boston where townspeople will be able to list babysitting, jobs wanted, or for sale items. The storefront was refurbished with environmentally friendly materials. Opening day for the Schmidt’s was Monday morning with balloons and free food offerred.
The first 100 families who bring in their dry cleaning will receive a free $25 gift certificate to use on their next order or are free to give it to a friend. The Schmidt’s have four children Isabella, Olivia, Mialotta, and Christopher. They live at 14 Vine Street, the former residence of Charlie Connolly, and former Holliston policeman Al Murphy who was found dead in the outhouse at the residence.
