State House Update - March 2016

by Representative Carolyn Dykema
April 10, 2016

Thanks to all who have contacted my office to share your thoughts and concerns as well. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Dear Neighbor,

As the wonderfully mild winter slowly melts into spring, I'm happy to share news and updates from the State House as we move through the second year of our legislative session. On behalf of our district this fall, I voted to support an increase to the net metering cap for solar energy, long-overdue reforms to public records law, continued support for our veterans services, and a comprehensive bill to combat the opioid abuse crisis that has spread across our commonwealth.

As we move into the Fiscal Year 2017 budget season as well, I have begun collecting input from many individuals and organizations in our community on how best to spend state money in the coming year. Among many important issues, I am focused on supporting young people through education spending and community programs, increased funding for the organizations that protect our water supply and natural spaces, and transportation investment that addresses the unique needs of the MetroWest region. I have scheduled meetings with fellow legislators and town officials from each of my communities to discuss each town's unique needs and priorities as they relate to the state budget. Receiving this vital input enables me to advocate effectively for my constituents as we move through the budget process.

I was proud to work with Rep. Kate Hogan and so many wonderfully dedicated veterans to host the March 2016 meeting of the MetroWest Veterans Consortium in Hudson. Local veterans come together every quarter to share ideas and thoughts about how best to serve veterans and their families in the MetroWest community.

The Assabet Valley Junior ROTC joined us and did an excellent job performing the Color Guard to open the meeting.

I celebrated the end to another great Panthers football season with my friend and colleague Rep. Mike Day, a great sport, who made good on our friendly wager. Because Holliston defeated Stoneham 28-6 in November, Mike joined me and Coach Todd Kiley in delivering 28 items to our food pantry while wearing his new Holliston t-shirt. Great local athletics are a win for both towns.

Thanks to all who have contacted my office to share your thoughts and concerns as well. Your input is greatly appreciated.

Warmly,

Rep. Carolyn Dykema Signature
