Week #1 : Holliston Senior Softball Wrap-Up: ( thru 4/15)

Opening Day went on as scheduled despite the brutal weather and it was business as usual for defending ‘A’ Champs Braggville as they routed Brentwood 15-1.    Despite a tumultuous off-season, Dalton Rd started strong with a surprise 15-1 beat down of Anthony’s East as embattled slugger Dave Birmingham went 3-5 with 4 RBI’s in the win and speedy LF Tim McDevitt had 3 hits and scored 4 times.  Jasper Rock pounded DYR 19-7 behind the brother duo of Derek and Jeremy Cordon who combined for 8 hits and 8 RBI’s.   Downtown blanked the Hood 7-0 as crafty veteran pitcher Mike Adams tossed the shutout and OF Todd Kiley led the offense with 2 hits and 3 RBI’s.  Kampersal defeated South 12-7 behind the late inning heroics of OF Chris Boggess whose 2 out 2-run double in the bottom of the 6th broke open a tie game.

In a contentious ‘A/B’ crossover game, Mudville edged Long Distance Tire 15-12 despite having just 9 players and seeing 2 former Mudville players in the Long Distance line up.  Benches emptied in the 4th when Long Distance 1B Chris Landers slid hard into 2nd-base on a force play sending Mudville SS Mark Landry into short left field.  No punches were thrown once Landers saw massive Mudville 1B Erickk Spada charging toward him. He immediately apologized to Mr. Landry but not before soiling himself. Eric Kuharich led the Mudville offense with 3 hits and 4 RBI’s.  The ‘hit-machine”, Ernie Tomicelli went 3-4 with 3 RBI to pace the Lions as they beat Queens 12-6. ..

Look for the Week 2 Wrap-Up next week!

On Monday, January 7th, the Holliston Public Library hosted a Meet the Author session with local writer, Ted Reinstein, who 'edu-tained' (educational and entertaining - not always easy to do) the audience about his most recent book, "New England's General Stores.' The fact that Ted lives in Holliston made it possible for his co-author, and wife Ann Marie to join the fun.
