YOUNG VOLUNTEERS HELP KEEP HOLLISTON BEAUTIFUL

by Cherry Fenton
April 26, 2018

Holliston in Bloom would like to thank an enthusiastic group of students from Miller and Placentino schools, as well as some younger siblings, led by local parent Catie Ehret on a clean-up at the Big Border at the Church Green on Friday, April 20.  They volunteered to clean up an area for HIB on one of their last days of school vacation!  That’s dedication!

Under beautiful clear blue skies, the young gardeners went to work.  They used clippers to cut spent hydrangea blooms, others removed the debris and trash that was stuck at the base of the plants, and another group picked up all the fallen branches and sticks on the Green.  Ten black bags worth of trash, leaves and plant debris were picked up and removed!

Every year, Boston College asks alumni to participate in community service specifically from April to May as part of a Global Service, “Eagles for Others” initiative.  BC alumna Catie Ehret chose to reach out to HIB because she felt that her daughter and her friends were old enough to understand giving back to their own community, as well as see the results of the efforts of and feel pride in their contributions.  Kudos to Catie, her daughter, and their friends and families for helping make a difference in our town!  We appreciate your hard work ??.

HIB is planning a town-wide cleanup on May 5 and 6 as part of the Keep Massachusetts Beautiful campaign from 9 AM – 1 PM each day.  See our website www.hollistoninbloom.org for information under the “Events” tab.  Join us at Blair Square to get assigned to a team or start on your own street.  Grab some friends or neighbors and be a part of the movement to keep Holliston beautiful.  If you can’t make it that weekend, pick up trash during your walk or jog.  Post your photos on Instagram #hollistoninbloom  #hollistonma  #hollistonmaplogging  #keepmassbeautiful or on the Facebook Holliston in Bloom page.  Let us know how many bags you collect!
