Fire Pit Winners Announced

by Press Release
January 10, 2019

I'm late in my post-First Night Trail Walk note. And this will be long, so please hang with me. It was fun.

These events can only happen with the help of volunteers—and our volunteers came out fierce this year. THANK YOU. We held a contest for the “best” fire pit and our judges couldn’t pick a single winner, so we awarded TWO winners who offered very different experiences for walkers. Charlie Marshall Roberts created a magical holiday vibe with inflatables and lights. Liz Donovan and Gerry Schultz offered an interactive experience by bringing part of their brass bell collection to the trail, encouraging walkers to make a wish to “ring” in the New Year. Congrats to both of our Fire Pit Contest Winners!

Our last winner to announce is Lucy from Ashland, who won the Jelly Bean guessing game. As she was thinking of an estimate, a family member suggested that perhaps we used 2019 jelly beans, to represent the New Year. Lucy likes to make things her own, so she added an extra 2, for a guess of 2021. Well, that strategy paid off, because of our 355 entries, 5 people guessed 2019. The actual number of jelly beans was 2023, which means Lucy has the closest guess!

While they were our official winners of the evening, there were so many other notable features along the trail: cooking Cornish game hens (which were reported as delicious and perfectly cooked), glow toys, bubble, music, The Story Walk, jelly bean counting contest, and snacks galore (another post coming about our snack consumption).

Take a spin though HCAT’s video to see our winning fire pits and the rest of the action from last week. Hats off to Bruce Gilfoy for capturing the evening magic.
