Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club Walk & Soup Social

by Press Release
March 22, 2019

SATURDAY, March 30th – The Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club invites walkers to complete a 5 km or 10 km (3.1 or 6.2 mile) marked route in Holliston, Mass.  This is a walk-at-your-own pace, just-for-fun event “in your own backyard.” All walkers are invited to join the club Soup Social sponsored by club members after the morning walk.

The start point is the First Congregational Church, 725 Washington Street, Holliston, Mass.  Registration for the 10 km is 9:00–10:00 a.m. and 10:15–11:00 a.m. for the 5 km so all will be back around noon when soup will be served. Free admission; donations accepted. Fee for those participating in the AVA/IVV achievement program is $3.00.

The 10 km walk comprises two 5 km loops. The first loop traverses through downtown Holliston before venturing into the Mudville neighborhood. Walkers will pass a tribute to Casey at the Bat and the immigrants who originally settled Mudville before heading to Arch Street walking under a 1-arch railroad bridge (reportedly listed in the Guinness Book of World records as the smallest railroad bridge in the world).

Weather & trail permitting, walkers will head up to the Upper Charles Rail Trail. The second 5 km loop will then travel through the downtown Thomas Hollis Historic District, residential areas and past the high school, a route that includes two short, gentle hills.

These routes are on paved surfaces with a few slight inclines, suitable for strollers but difficult for wheelchairs.  Leashed pets are welcome on the walk but not in the dining hall; clean-up laws apply.

Volkssporting events sponsored by Walk 'n Mass Volkssport Club promote fun, fitness and friendship through non-competitive walking and biking free to the public. There is also an achievement awards program through the American Volkssport Association (AVA). For further information contact Bea Hait at 774-292-9098, beateh1@aol.com or visit www.walknmass.org.
