Park Commissioners Study Blair Square Plan

by Chris Cain
April 7, 2019

The commissioners received a briefing from Inge Daniels the architect who designed the Blair Square master plan.  The master plan itself is the result of input from many constituencies and the input continues with presentations such as last Thursday's.

The concept is to have a park that surrounds the Upper Charles Rail Trail as it approaches Central Street.  Parking for trail use and the possibility of sanitary facilities for people using the Blair Square park took up most of the comments.  One idea was to relocate the gazebo to Cross Street. Shaw Lively, the Park Commission's representative on the Blair Square committee, took copious notes to take back to the committee.

Park and Rec Director Mark Frank updated the commissioners on the condition of the parks and fencing as spring arrives.  The fields are not quite ready for play.  The Commissioners authorized up to $5,000 to repair fences at Patoma Park.

Discussion of the plan to connect the Park and Rec building to the Rail Trail was tabled until the next meeting.

Mark Frank reported that enrollment in Summer Camps is up.  A reminder about Spring Programs has been published in the Holliston Reporter.  There are several trees at Patoma that need attention before activities get into full swing.  The Commissioners authorized Director Frank to expend up to $10,000 to trim / remove the most dangerous trees.

The Commissioners appointed Lisa Diluzio to the 9 Green Street Committee.

Commissioner Art Winters, whose term is ending, thanked everyone for their support during his service.
