Water Main Replacement Project Update

by Press Release
July 26, 2019

STATUS REPORT #2 Water Main Replacement Project

STATUS REPORT #2 Water Main Replacement Project

To: Residents and Businesses within the Project Area (Mudville)

From: Holliston Water Division

Date: July 24, 2019

Dear Water Customers:

The intent of this notice is to provide an update regarding the on-going water main replacement project in your neighborhood (Mudville Area). A summary of the important information is as follow:

A.  Work Completed:

1. The new water main, valves and hydrants have been installed for the entire project area.

2. The new water main for most of the project area has been tested and has passed the tests. Those areas are ready for installation of new water services, while the remaining section is being tested.

B.  Work Remaining:

1. Installation of new water service lines from the new water main to edge of each property.

2. Testing the remaining section of the new water main.

3. Restorations of all lawns and other disturbed areas after all new services have been installed.

C. Tentative Schedule: Installation of new water services for each property will start on Thursday, July 25. The work will start from the dead-end section of Union Street and will continue toward School Street. Then, it will be Mechanic Street, Pleasant Street and the rest of Mudville. The crew may complete 5 to 8 new services a day until all water customers in the project area have a new water service.

D. Water Service Disruptions: The Contractor will need to shut off water service to each house for about 2 to 3 hours to connect each property to the new water main. The water service interruption will be limited to one property at a time and will not affect the entire neighborhood.

E. Construction Disruptions: Installation of water services would require digging trenches across the entire width of the roadway.  If you plan to use your vehicle that day, we ask that you move it to just beyond the active construction zone for the day.  You will be notified the day before your water service is to be replaced. Emergency departments, postal service, trash and recycling collection trucks and others can access the neighborhood from either side of the active construction zones.

F. Additional Information: We recognize the inconvenience and ask for your continued patience during this project. If you need additional information or have any questions, please contact the Holliston Water Division (508-4290603).

Elizabeth, thanks for your question. The existing water mains are to be filled with concrete and abandoned in place.

Do the old water mains stay in the ground or are they taken up after the new mains are fully installed?
