Wire Down on Washington Street Adds to Friday 'Rush' Hour Delay

by Chris Cain
August 23, 2019

Around 3:30 pm on Friday afternoon, a power line fell across Washington Street near the interection of Quail Run.  East and west bound traffic on Washington Street had to be rerouted around the scene.

Fire Chief Michael Cassidy (seen in his high-visibility vest on the left) reported that the current in the downed line was arcing and hot enough to melt the asphalt pavement.  At the time of this photo the power had not yet been turned off and the line continued to smolder.

The power in the area is off and the all-important traffic signals at the intersection of Washington, High, and Woodland Streets are not working.  Drivers remember - when traffic signals are out the intersection should be treated as a four-way stop.
