Victors Receive Heroes' Welcome

Victors Receive Heroes' Welcome

It was twenty-five years in the making, and the Panthers brought home gold on Saturday.

They may not realize it now, but Coach Kiley's kids will be reliving this day for the rest of their lives.

With the score tied up at seven-all at halftime, Holliston added touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters which went unanswered by Cardinal Spellman at Gillette Stadium on Saturday morning.

Winning the game 21-7, the Panthers arrived in town complete with an escort from the Holliston Police and Fire Departments.

Coach Kiley (above center) who seemed to be taking in the moment said he found it difficult to explain his feelings. "It's been a lot of people and a lot of work to make this happen, especially the parents and the support of the community." Asked if he was always so humble, Kiley said he would take credit for hiring a great staff. Kiley's dad Jerry (above right) said he was proud of his son and thought the culmination of the day's victory was a reflection of his son's teaching ability.

Chairman of the Board of Selectmen and voice of the Panthers Andy Porter called the big win "a victory for the whole town". He apologized to the shopkeepers downtown for the lack of the morning's business as "I think the whole town was at Gillette".

Parents, players and fans milled around to savor the victory...

The celebration soon moved to Casey's Crossing for free pizza and soda. Way to go, Big Red.

Great point about the kids remembering this for the rest of their lives. Very true. May I take it a step further? All the kids over the years who had the good fortune and privilege to play for these amazing coaches have learned lessons which will last a lifetime. And I am not talking about X's and O's. These coaches are the best group of mentors, teachers and role models I have ever seen assembled. Take a bow and thank you! Lastly, the players and town should take a bow, too, for the class shown throughout the year and during some very difficult times in the recent past. Job (very) well done!Oh yeah, one last thing - heckuva football team, too! :)
