Looking Back, 2010
"In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life - it goes on". Robert Frost

And so did life go on in Holliston for yet another year. A year dominated by politics with local residents running on the stage of town, state and national scenes.

Carolyn Dykema would retain her seat in the State House of Representatives. Marty Lamb would fail in his first attempt to unseat long term U.S. Representative Jim McGovern. Jay Marsden would gain a seat on the local board of selectmen. Paul Loscocco would exit his bid for Lt. Governor.

With an economy struggling in its third year of "the Great Recession" and some one in ten people unemployed, the sight of a foreclosure sign reminded some of the Depression of the 30's.

But if you're a kid on a very warm spring day, your only troubles seem to be how to cool down.

For some like Police Chief Tom Lambert it was time to put an active career behind and move on to other endeavors.

Others like the Class of 2010 would step out into an unsure world, idealistic and full of hope.

There would be new beginnings in town such as the Mudville Market at the corner of Exchange and Union Streets in an otherwise vacant lot.

And new cheerful baskets would hang from lamp posts downtown courtesy of the American Legion's Downtown Marigold Project.

Some even celebrated in hard times with neighborhood parties...

...while others Celebrated Holliston as a great place to live.

There would be the everyday commonplace...

...and the not so commonplace of Holliston and its citizens in 2010.

And if you were Sgt. Erik Simkins of Arch Street who is serving in Afghanistan, Holliston would look pretty good just about now. Count your lucky stars.

Things today may not be great, but they are not bad and that's good. One just has to take the time to see the beauty in things and be thankful for what we have. Happy 2011, everyone.
