Christmas Tree Disposal
by Bill Tobin 12/26/11
Christmas trees are fun to buy or cut and decorate, but when the time comes to dispose of them, what do you do?

Boy Scout Troop 76 has the perfect answer.
Christmas trees are fun to select and enjoy, but not so much fun to dispose of.
You spent a lot of time and money selecting the perfect tree for your home. You considered the height, the circumference, the color and type of the needles. You brought it home, did some branch trimming, and then strategically placed the lights. With the help of the family, the decorations were chosen and you reminisced as each was hung with care on the tree.
Later gifts were wrapped and placed under the tree. Eventually, Santa visited, Christmas day came, and all had a joyous time around the beautiful Christmas tree.
Christmas is over and the tree now is past tense and must be undecorated and somehow disposed of. The weekly trash pick-up will not remove it. The Marshall Street recycling site will accept it, but it is a chore to haul it there.
The Boy Scouts have the solution. For a tree six feet or under, the Scouts will pick it up at your curb for seven bucks (ten bucks for a tree over six feet) and dispose of it for you. How convenient. No tinsel on the tree though.

Saturday, January 7, 2011 (the 8th if snow). Arrangements must be made before Friday January 6th, 6pm by calling 508.429.2810 between 9 am and 9 pm, or e-mail Troop76trees@aol.com
The trees must be tinsel free. No wreaths or swags either. And yes, you must be a resident of Holliston.
Make check payable to Troop 76 Holliston, place in envelope and tape on your front door.
This is a great community service. Take advantage of it.
