Class of 2012 Auction

by Bobby Blair 10/10/11

When I arrived at 8:50 a.m. the line had already formed...

Although the line extended back to the parking lot, the folks in charge at the yearly Class Auction moved the lines along swiftly. A confirmed non-shopper, my stay was swift.

Class of 2012 members (above) got ready to sing the National Anthem. I was dismayed that some of the shoppers seemed to be in their own little world and didn't take time out to stand still for a few moments. It was like watching someone try to drive and talk on the phone at the same time.

Jordan's Furniture has nothing on this auction's furniture department.

Maddy Walker and Bri Fierro, both members of the Class of 2010, were both AWOL from their posts and had been doing a little shopping. Walker found a camera and metal tool chest.

Even the cafeteria had been converted into a makeshift snack bar and library. According to one student, the class hopes to make anywhere from $19,000 to $30,000 with the proceeds going towards the class trip and prom.

You are right that shoppers should have been respectful of the flag and the anthem. I did find it a little disconcerting when they started singing however as i have never heard the anthem sung at a yard sale before. my classmates did do a good rendition however. we made about 23,000 dollars before expenses i am told.
