Madrigal Singers are Tops Again
by Bill Tobin 12/10/11
The Mudville Madrigal Singers presented awesome and inspirational a cappella Christmas music at the Holliston Historical Society home to a full house on Friday December 9.
If you missed it, you can attend this great a capella concert on Sunday at 3 in the afternoon at the Historical Society Asa Whiting House on Washington Street.
The Holliston Historical Society hosted a free concert with the Mudville Madrigal Singers Friday night in the Great Room of the Asa Whiting House.
Sheila Adams was the MC and hostess of the evening and introduced the Madrigal Singers to a full house.
These talented a cappela singers presented a varied program of Carols from the Renaissance, traditional carols to renditions of Irving Berlin's White Christmas and Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson.
The Mudville Madrigal Singers, have been together since September 1993 and gave their first concert at a home on School Street. Five of the original members are with the group, that expanded to nine, and now there are ten. Three Mudville neighbors, and some nearby neighbors discovered a common link to Kirkland College, (now Hamilton) in New York who had a fondness for music and formed an informal group. As they formalized, they sought and were granted permission from the Mayor, to call their group, Mudville Madrigal Singers. The rest is history.
Today, all but four call Holliston home and they rehearse twice a month year round, more at concert time. All have much experience with chorale singing and enjoy coming together to sing. There is no appointed leader of the group and all participate in program selections.
They traditionally prepare two programs a year, one at Christmas, and the other in the springtime. They are available at other times by request in Holliston and neighboring communities.
The current members are Kate Connell, Leslie Randall Dooley, Jessica Schendel, sopranos; Andrea Hart, Susan Langer, Anne Priestley, alto; tenors John Howe and James Turner ;and Mark Dooley and Paul Schendel, bass.
This is a great way to usher in the Christmas season.
