Rep. Carolyn Dykema was the featured speaker for the monthly meeting of the HBA.

Rep. Carolyn gave a top down assessment of business from the national politics down to the state level Monday night at the Fairview at Pinecrest. Dykema thanked the HBA for their recent donation to send Holliston Iraq/Afghanistan vets to the Fallen Heroes Dinner in Boston.

Dykema told local businessmen and women that the legislature is watching closely just how much those cuts to transportation and healthcare will be. Dykema noted that Massachusetts is slightly better in economic terms with the state showing a 4.2% rise in business expansion in the first quarter. Dykema noted that the 495 corridor is an economic engine for Massachusetts, but she's looking for the public to get back their confidence in the housing market. "If there's one thing I hear over and over again everywhere I go, it's the high cost of healthcare," Dykema told members of the Holliston Business Association. "We've fallen to ninth place in terms of health care cost from being the most expensive state in 2007-08."
Dykema spoke about the Small Business Purchasing Program and the need to hire returning veterans from the combat zone. Dykema fielded questions from those present, many having concerns about the possibility of a casino being located in Milford. In the case of Milford, Dykema said a vote would have to be taken by Milford residents as to their wishes as part of the application process. Towns surrounding Milford would also have input into the process.
