Selectmen Meet December 27, 2011

by Bobby Blair 12/27/11

Selectmen will convene a regional information night concerning a possible casino in Milford.

Selectmen made several appointments Tuesday night including Lois Hosmer (below) to the Council on Aging and Carol Kosicki to the Historical Commission.

The Board signed a document to facilitate the sale of the railbed owned by CSX to the town for the purpose of building a rail trail. Selectmen also set the date for the Annual Town Meeting for May 7th, and Annual Town Elections for May 22nd. The warrant for town meeting will commence on January 3rd and close on March 12th.

Fire Chief Michael Cassidy appeared before the board to discuss the purchase of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) whose price tag would cost the town $20,000. While the system could be multi layered and used by multiple town boards, no decision was forthcoming by the board. Cassidy also wore the hat as a member of the website revision committee. The town has several choices - to keep control of the website in house which costs very little or contracting an outside vendor.

Selectmen signed licenses for establishments which sell liquor and dispense liquor as well as signing licenses for automatic amusement devices.

The Board said that the status of the former Andrews School remains in limbo and in the hands of town counsel. A clear title to the school is not in the town's hands as land was conveyed to the town as long as it was used for educational purposes. A search for ancestors has turned up empty. An act of the legislature must now turn the property over to the town.

Selectmen will hold a regional meeting at the Adams Middle School on January 26th to discuss the possibility of a casino being located on Holliston town border in Milford. Chairman Jay Marsden noted the session was not a gripe or complain event but rather an information gathering.

boston.com, Decemeber 28: "Selectmen [in Foxboro] dealt a blow last night to a casino proposal by Las Vegas mogul Steve Wynn, declaring that the town is unwilling to host the resort and that the board will not enter into negotiations with Wynn over terms for having a casino in town." It might be time, then, for Holliston residents to notice that while East Boston is still a possible host for a resort casino, so is Milford.
