Orchard Neighborhood Reunion

by John "Choo-Choo" Shannahan 2/8/12

The neighborhood known as "The Orchards" is sponsoring a neighborhood reunion

on Saturday, March 24th at the Holliston VFW on Woodland Street, 6:30-11PM  to reminisce and meet and greet the newcomers to the neighborhood.

Orchard neighborhood residents, past and present are invited to come to the VFW Hall on March 24th from 6:30 to 11:00PM for a fun time.

Please join us in celebrating one of Holliston’s great treasures with an evening of fond memories and good cheer. The evening includes a social hour followed by buffet dinner, laced with joyous reminiscing about a neighborhood which for more than fifty years has been a great place to live.

For the newbies in town, the Orchards neighborhood is primarily Regal and Norland Streets, plus some of Woodland and Lowland Streets, developed circa 1956.

Tickets ($25.00/person) are available from:
Ellie Woodworth Stackpole 45 Norland Street 508-429-3951 Estack45@aol.com

Ron White 100 Norland Street 508-429-4192 rmjmkwhite@verizon.net

Kristine Nielsen Heavner 41 Rockland Street 508-429-4168 geezlueez50@gmail.com

John Shannahan 383 Chamberlain Street 508-429-5222 Shanjd@aol.com

Checks should be made out to Ellie Stackpole and mailed to 45 Norland Street.

Questions can be addressed to Shanjd@aol.com. Information on the event is available on Facebook at the Holliston Orchards Reunion page.

Please forward your contact information, as well as that of former and present Orchards residents to Shanjd@aol.com

We look forward to seeing you...

I TOTALLY agree Mrs. Talbot... John/Choo-Choo has a gift for writing!!..I, too, am more than pleased that he will be sharing "his gift" with our "true" townies once again!! Also, regarding his Choo-Choo name, WELLL...let's just say he has "hyphen envy"! ;)

Listen SWH, for someone who until his recent hip surgery looked like Walter Brennan in The Real McCoys, you have a lot of nerve making disparaging comments about the way I run. And another thing, if you had had the privilege of taking a peek inside our old refrigerator, you would know it was filled with Cushman bread and Bosco, which would be the beginnings of a great lunch to which you would never be invited. See you at the reunion.

Carl, part of that log cabin is now a garage moved by Mark Dellicker to either Birch Rd or Cottage Dr. What do I win? Until just a few years ago there were still some apple trees from the original orchards. Not sure if there are any left now. The Orchards was a great place to grow up!

Good question Jeanne, but a better one would be, why does John call himself "Choo Choo"? At first I thought maybe because his old house in the "Orchards" backed up to the train tracks. And then talking to some former and present selectman, as well as members of the "Old Man Softball League", it appears he runs like he is carrying the old refrigerator from his old "Orchards" home. Any info on this?

Because Roy Hulbert's orchards used to be on that land. So, Jeanne, what do I win? Now trivia for you, where is part of the orignal log cabin now? (the part they saved!) And, for bonus points, who moved it?

Trivia question of the day: Who knows why the neighborhood is called The Orchards.
