Holliston Democrats Elect Delegates to State Convention
Holliston Democrats held a caucus Saturday, February 11, to elect delegates to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s 2012 endorsing convention in Springfield this spring. The caucus was organized and hosted by the Holliston Democratic Town Committee.
A record 40 people attended the meeting to vote for eight delegates and three alternate delegates to attend the convention.
Elected delegates attending the June 2 convention will be: Judy Gagnon, Lisa Kaplan, Elaine Doyle, Ginny Keniry, Allen Rutberg, Mark Signore, Lee DeSorgher and Joe Harary. Elected alternates who will also attend are Sasha Golden, Jonathan Loya and Tom Driscoll. In addition, Holliston DTC Chair Beth Greely, State Representative Carolyn Dykema, and State Democratic Committee members Rob Cassidy and Bill Dooling will attend as ex officio delegates.
“The Massachusetts Democratic Party is focused in 2012 on expanding and strengthening the grassroots infrastructure that helped make historic gains in 2010,” said Massachusetts Democratic Party Chair John Walsh. “In Holliston and across the Commonwealth, Democrats are energized and organized to beat Scott Brown and make sure President Barack Obama is elected to a second term.”
"In June, these delegates will gather with Democratic leaders from across Massachusetts to endorse a candidate for US Senate and plan for a grassroots, person-to-person campaign in the fall,” Walsh added.
Delegates to the 2012 Massachusetts Democratic Party endorsing convention will select candidates to compete for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate. The convention will be held on Saturday, June 2, at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield.
In addition to delegates who are elected at caucus, those who meet the qualifications may apply to be add-on delegates in the following categories: youth, minority, and disabled. Applications are available by contacting the Democratic Party at 617-939-0800. Completed applications must be returned to the Democratic State Committee by March 30.
The Holliston Democratic Town Committee meets on the second Saturday of the month. For more information on the Holliston DTC contact Chair Beth Greely at 508-429-3965 or beth@yellowinc.net.
