Senior Center Quilters
by Bill Tobin 2/12/12
They are artistic, creative, productive and have lots of fun.

The Quilting Club meets twice a month at the Senior Center to share their wares
Friday mornings, twice a month the quilters meet at the Senior Center to "quiilt" , but it really is more than just to quilt. They are productive, artistic and creative and they enjoy the friendship and sociability of these sessions. And they challenge each other to show originality and self improvement with a lot of laughs along the way. They invited me to join them last Friday, not to quillt of course, but to show off their beautiful works of art. I was duly impressed.

L-R, Peggy Enquist, Theresa Parnell, Carolyn Brumber, Linda Ramrath, Kay Sobottka, and Paula Nelson. The Quilters have been meeting for five years. Some have been quilting since the group began in 2007, while some are considered newcomers to the group.

Above are two samples of their work.

This quilt of made entirely from jeans.

This quilt represents the Seven Wonders of Holliston. Can you identify them?
There is diversity too, as evidenced by the doll dresses created by a grandmother for her granddaughter's doll to celebrate St. Valentine's Day.

This quilt is hanging in the great room of the center, created by the quilters in 2008 to celebrate the anniversary of the Senior Center. It was autographed by many members of the center.

Pictured above is a bag to hold your Nook or Kindle. It has a clever top closure to prevent the gadget from falling out of the bag. These handsome bags will be available for purchase at the Senior Center Harvest Fair in September, with the proceeds to benefit the Senior Center.

Carolyn Brumber, top photo, and Peggy Enquist are dilligently working their machines.
It was an educational visit for me. For example, I learned that the above pattern is called "Dresden"; now you know that too. What a nice, friendly way to accomplish something of beauty.
