Model United Nations Holds a Meet the Candidates Night

March 6, 2012. Amy Elias, President of MUN (Model United Nations) Club, opened the informal session in the cafeteria after the candidates and interested citizens helped themselves to the $5.00 buffet.

Amy asked all the candidates and current office holders to step forward and be identified.

Amy put the event this way: "Good evening, everybody, and welcome to Holliston High School’s Model United Nations Club’s first Meet the Candidates Night. 

"My name is Amy Elias, and I am the president of this club.  I would now like to introduce our advisor Mr.McGuinness, our vice president May Yamakawa, and our treasurer Suresh Manian. 

We would quickly like to thank all delegates, their families, Sal’s Pizza, Recognition Inc, all members of the press, all candidates, and everybody here tonight for supporting our Model UN club.  Debates often highlight the differences between candidates for voters, but tonight is about showing the similarities between voters and candidates.  Through this event, we hope to provide an opportunity for voters to connect with candidates one on one.  Therefore, we invite you to sit wherever you would like and move tables throughout the event.  Now, it is with great honor that I wil introduce the candidates.  As I say your name, please come towards the front:

Bill Cimbrelo – Candidate for United States Senate
Jim King – Candidate for United States Senate
Marianne Conboy – Representing Candidate and State Senator Karen Spilka
Nancy Baron – Vice Chair of Holliston Library Trustees and Candidate
Representative Carolyn Dykema - Candidate for reelection                                  Edward Dooley – Candidate for Holliston School Committee
Donald Gray – Holliston School Committee Member and Candidate
Paul Healy – Holliston Park Commissioner and Candidate
William Heuer – Holliston Library Trustee and Candidate
Geoffrey Zeamer – Holliston Planning Board Member and Candidate
Mark Schultz – Holliston Finance Committee Member not seeking reelection

MUN organized the event to allow candidates to meet with folks on an informal basis and to raise funds for a trip to Darthmouth College.

The kids seem to be getting younger and younger as I get older.
