The Hills Are Alive With the Sound of Bees

by Bobby Blair 7/18/12

Broad Hill and the Mayor's Plantation on Highland Street are abuzz with millions of bees.

A newly mowed field on Highland Street not far from the Ashland line is now home to 8 million 640 thousand southern visitors. 288 bee colonies arrived a week ago from Georgia. Bee dealer Andy Reseska of Adams Street said the first task the bees will undertake will be a search for water.

Reseska told the HollistonReporter.com that it would take a day for the bees to reorient themselves after the long trip which was delayed due to tire problems on his flatbed.

The bees' stay will be shortlived. The bees will be demited and then shipped to farmers and bee keepers across Eastern Massachusetts. Reseska a former house painter has been in the bee business for 16 years. His website can be found here http://bostonhoneycompany.com/BHC/index.html

My wife drove by soon after and texted me that they had installed bees there. I'm sorry to hear they are leaving. As a beekeeper myself, I thought it was an awesome sight. 288 colonies! That's a lot of honey!

BOBBY, You better have your eppy pen ready. I remember when you delivered a colony of bees to my house from Sears many years ago
