Sam Tyler introduced the candidates: Representative Carolyn Dykema, seeking reelection to to her third term representing District 8, and Marty Lamb, who is campaigning to win this seat in the House.

Each candidate was granted a five minute opening statement, with Marty winning the toss as the first speaker.

Marty presented his reasons for running and what he planned to accomplish if elected.

In her opening remarks, Carolyn reviewed her accomplishments during her term as representative and how she will continue to serve the needs of  the district.

Moderator Sam asked pertinent questions of each candidate regarding their views and standings on relative issues such as the medical use of marijuana, which is question 3 on the November ballot. Their thoughts on topical subjects like housing, education, transportation issues, revenue and taxes, and, of course, the casino plans were discussed.

Carolyn has been a devoted public servant who has represented our district well, making positive contributions through legislation and by her constant, attentive presence at events where she can hear all her constituents' concerns. She is not a party tool, and has signed no "pledges" to follow any group's agenda. Her agenda is to listen to us and to bring revenue and services to our district. I see nothing compelling that would make me want to lose such dedicated public service, but I see many reasons to support a representative who has done an excellent job. Carolyn has broad support among Republicans. Democrats and Independent voters who have been paying attention to her performance over the past few years. Almost no one can garner such unanimous support in this polarized climate, and yet she can. Check her website to see her record and don't fall for her detractors' rants.

Let's go easy on Marty. After the election he'll have plenty of free time to catch up on local affairs.

Carolyn's comments indicated her continued support for affordable health care, quality education, and viable communities. Her commitment to these is why I am proud to say I supported her before and will continue to do so,with every assurance that she will continue to work diligently for us.

Why is it that the Democrats want one set of rules for themselves and another set for everyone else. Supporters of one candidate are disparaged for commenting, but supporters of the other candidate can post at will, and that makes it all OK. It's not a one way street. There is freedom of speech in this country the last time I checked. Also, Carolyn's campaign has her inner circle constantly on the boards in all media outlets making comments repeatedly. In fact members of the Holliston Democrat Town committee have written letters to the editor to Metro. Another Democrat on the school committee wrote a letter to editor in Metro. So, why is it OK for the Democrats to have partisans do this, and in fact even more partisan since they are on DTC's and local boards. Yet, others who support Marty Lamb are disparaged for posting their views. I say VOTER ALERT ! When you see generic names posting who are NOT REAL NAMES who make claims with a holier than though attitude and make wild accusations about other commenters, take a good look at who is doing the finger pointing. In fact in the Southboro blog, the blog owner had to put up a note to warn people not to disparage other commenters but instead STAY FOCUSED on the subject at end. I'm so glad she did, because otherwise, it ends up being mud slinging against people who are exercising their citizenship.

Carolyn did a great job of bringing forward her accomplishments as a legislator. She has lead in certain areas and been a thoughtful contributor in others. Her areas of focus are absolutely essential for our growth, and she shows sensitivity to concerns arising from all quarters, including business. Carolyn closed by noting that she brings a bipartisan, partnering and focus-on-solutions mindset to her job. She has proven this repeatedly to those who pay attention, and this is why we will be honored to reelect her.

Let it be known that certain commenters on this article have previously posted on the Holliston Reporter, Holliston Patch, HopNews, and Southborough town blogs, yet no one knows her and he/she doesn't even appear to be a resident of Massachusetts. Strangely enough, she only pops up with Marty Lamb articles when you "Google" her name. It is a known fact that the Lamb campaign emails their supporters to comment on articles in support of Mr. Lamb. I don't know about you - but I get really fed up when all these Tea Party people who comment with fake accounts on our news sites to illegitimately make people form opinions. VOTER BEWARE!

Marty Lamb made a fine presentation in that debate, very substantive. I can see his experience as a small business owner brings forward substantive plans for reviving the economy, and he's the only one who has step by step plans he could discuss to help turn things around. Clearly, he's put the time and energy into it, and that's what we need, a legislator who brings forth practical solutions and ideas, the positive change on Beacon Hill which is sorely needed to get this state back on the right track. His plans are straightforward sensible ideas that we can relate to and that people of all political persuasions can agree on. I'd like to see these worked on. They are common sense real improvements. Many times Marty Lamb related to situations in his own life with heartfelt responses, challenges with kids going to college and paying tuition, managing and balancing time and busy schedules, things we can all relate to. He brings balance and diversity, a fresh perspective, practical economic experience in running a business, economic plans and solutions, it's meaningful. The sincerity was refreshing.

How can anybody with a shred of common sense vote for this woman? Her track record is atrocious and it is blatantly obvious that she would tax the air that we breathe if she could. The union tells Dykema how to vote and she complies regardless of what the financial burden is to struggling middle class families.
