Invitation For Veterans In The Mail

by Bobby Blair 10/26/12

The town's veterans will once again be hosted to a dinner for Veterans Day ...

Due to this year's Veterans Day falling on a Sunday, the Veterans Day Committee will hold services and dinner at Town Hall on Saturday, November 10th instead of the 11th. The planning committee felt that with the 11 a.m. time frame on the 11th, parking due to church services would be limited. It is also hoped that those wishing to attend in previous years and having to work would now have an opportunity to attend on a Saturday.

Invites to the town's 672 veterans l arrived in the mail on Tuesday.

This year activities begin at 10:30 a.m. at the new Rail Trail Park opposite CVS Pharmacy on Central Street. The Charles F. Duford Post #47 American Legion and the Leonard D. Chesmore Post 8507 have donated, and will be dedicating a new flag pole at the park in honor to the town's residents who have served in the military during the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. Veterans are asked to gather at the park at 10:15 a.m.  The public is invited.

There will be a short march from the park to Town Hall through the town square with a wreath laying and firing squad salute at Memorial Square (Washington and Hollis Streets) prior to 11 a.m. services at Town Hall. Any veteran wishing to park a car at Town Hall can receive a ride to services at the park and march to Town Hall. All other veterans are asked to meet at Town Hall at 10:45 a.m. Dinner will be served in Upper Town Hall following the 11 a.m. services. If you have not received an invitation by week's end, please contact Bobby Blair at mudvillemayor@gmail.com or 508-429-6763. The Annual Dinner is hosted by the Lions Club/Leo's, American Legion, and VFW. Special thanks go to Pat Duffey for arranging the appetizers.
